Painting to remember how a place felt

After considerable thought, I was able to distill the reason I paint or draw into a single idea — to remember how places made me feel.

I am a person who enjoys nature before I am an artist. In its endless complexity, nature is indeed an exciting source of artistic inspiration — however, for me, the actual motivation to depict nature through artwork feels more like an urge to capture fleeting feelings, rather than because I merely believed a tree had potential to look quite painterly.

A painting I am fond of is one that captures the immediacy and imperfection of nature at a given time and place. I can never relive these moments exactly the way I initially did, so painting or drawing the places I find myself, either en plein air or later from a reference image, are my attempts at immortalizing them.

Due to my foremost interest in nature, the built landscape has also become subject of my curiosity. I am often stopped by moments where I observe a meaningful coexistence between these two realms.

These thoughts comprise the basis of my artwork.
